The Law Enforcement accreditation program has been a work in progress
for some time. In January 2003 the Law Enforcement Division of the Albany
County Sheriff's Department underwent their initial accreditation assessment.
There are 130 standards which fall into one of three categories; administration,
training and operations. For three days, three independent assessors review
department policies, procedures and records, interview personnel and make
observations of daily operations to insure compliance with program standards.
On March 4th, 2003 the Albany County Sheriff's Department was awarded
the status of being accredited by the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation
Council.
